Study Away

In an effort to make study away programs accessible to all students, Duke has established robust financial aid programs during the academic year to support our students' global endeavors.  To learn more about how to use your aid while away from Duke, check out the information below.

Duke-In Semester Programs & the Duke Marine Lab

If you are traveling with a Duke-administered (or "Duke-In") program or to the Duke Marine Lab during the academic year, your cost will remain the same as a semester on campus, even if your program is more expensive.

Duke-Approved Semester Programs

Duke-approved semester programs are study-abroad or domestic study-away programs that are administered by an institution other than Duke University. Your family contribution to attend a Duke-approved program will remain the same, provided the cost of the program doesn't exceed the cost of a semester at Duke.

Summer Study Abroad Programs

All travel programs for Summer 2021 have been suspended. The information below applies for future programs, anticipated in Summer 2022.

Students may receive institutional financial aid for up to two summer terms, including summer Duke-In Global Education programs. There is no separate summer financial aid application.  Duke need-based aid is only available for students traveling with Duke-In programs; no institutional aid can be provided for non-Duke summer programs.
