Health Insurance

Because all students are required to maintain adequate health insurance, students are automatically enrolled in the Duke Student Medical Insurance Plan at the beginning of each year. The charge for the plan will be added to your bill from Duke if you take no action. To avoid this charge, you have two options:

  • If you already have health insurance, you can provide proof of your current coverage and the charge can be removed.

Or

  • If you don't already have health insurance and you are receiving need-based grant aid from Duke, you can indicate this when completing the process and our office can cover the cost.

To begin the process of having your insurance charge either removed from your bill or financed through payment plans, loans, or grants, do the following:

  1. Log into the DukeHub. See the screen shots below.
  2. Go to the "Forms and Requests" tab
  3. Select Health Insurance
  4. Click the link "waive, enroll, or view your status"
  5. DO NOT CLICK ENROLL (unless you are choosing Duke's insurance over your own and are prepared to cover the full cost).
    1. If you already have health insurance and would like to remove the charge for Duke's plan, enter your current health insurance information in the top portion and click "submit for review."
    2. If you don't already have health insurance, you can enter that you are not insured in the "Other Insurer" field and check the "no" boxes on the questionnaire. Click "submit for review" when done.

If you do not complete the above steps by the deadline published by the Duke Student Health Insurance Office, you will be charged for the plan and the cost cannot be removed.
