Dining & Financial Aid

Unlike aid for on-campus housing, financial aid for dining is fixed. Students receive the same amount of aid for dining regardless of whether they live on campus or what dining plan they choose.

"Will I get more financial aid if I choose a more expensive dining plan?"

No. All students receive the same amount of financial aid for dining, and this doesn't change depending on which dining plan you choose. This means that the more expensive your dining plan, the higher your bill from Duke will be.

We encourage students to choose their dining plan based on their preferences and schedule. Some students will want to live in an apartment and cook most of their meals themselves; some students will have a busy schedule and want three meals a day from the Brodhead Center. Choosing an inexpensive dining plan won't be a cheaper option if you run out of meals early on and end up paying for a lot of meals with cash!
